Today is a day when I am doing a lot of things, none of them very well. None of these things are all that unusual, either! I am working, wife-ing, dog wrangling, all at various degrees of FAIL. I suspect this is not uncommon right now as literally everything must go on within the four walls of wherever we live.
We cleaned the house over the weekend and it already seems like it never happened. I know this is the nature of housecleaning but why can’t it stay clean just a little bit longer! Why can’t the dishwasher unload itself, and why can’t my dogs bathe themselves! (In the tub, not by licking because then they just smell like their gross little mouths.)
I’m making an old house favorite for dinner tonight, which is kielbasa and potatoes in a skillet with some spinach. I can’t remember now which specific kielbasa/potatoes/spinach recipe I used, but I suspect this one is close enough. (I had to idiot google to find it.) Last night we had carryout burgers from Zhug, and I am already sorry that it can’t be carryout night again. Not that I mind cooking so much but any variation in routine is so very exciting.
Writing about carryout I am reminded of how my UK colleagues never want me to include “key takeaways” in any presentations. Oh THE QUEEN’S ENGLISH, so sorry!
I can’t believe it’s going to be MAY tomorrow. For me, April flew by. My niece’s birthday is April 7 and I remember thinking back then that we would never get to the end of the month. And here we are.
I’m eager to get moving on my quilt but until the supplies I ordered arrive I have no way of doing anything. I’m starting to think Joann is just never going to ship anything to me, instead they will just wait until they are out of everything I ordered (thus far, they are out of sewing machine needles and craft clips). I did order some more mask fabric that will allegedly arrive on Saturday. I ran out of bandana-print fabric and there is nothing remaining that could be considered “masculine” for those who would prefer it, so I actually did go to Etsy and search “quilting cotton masculine” and what do you know, there are people who have tagged their offerings thusly.
I hope to do tomorrow better than I have done today. Tomorrow morning holds a dreaded grocery shopping trip but it can be put off no longer as we are starting to run out of things like olive oil and soy sauce and apple cider vinegar and honey. Flour I have but the condiments and sauces are running low now. Much like housecleaning, it is a battle that can never be truly won.
