The dogs woke us up at 5:15 this morning. What a way to begin day 36 of isolation!
I recently purchased a cute little banner perfectly suited to these times. It says FUCK THIS and for the time being it is hanging on the kitchen door. For ten Venmo-ed dollars you can have one of your very own, I highly recommend it.
Also, there is snow on the ground this morning. I live something like 12 feet above sea level and it is April 16, why is this happening? I know Northeast Ohio can usually be relied upon for a weather-related kick in the goolies during April and even May but this is too much to bear. I guess at least no one has any outdoor activities planned, oh wait, unless you need to wait in an ACTUAL BREAD LINE to do your grocery shopping.
I laid out my quilt top last night and once my thread arrives from the hinterlands of an Amazon warehouse (sorry but all the Real Stores around here that carry it are closed) I will be able to start piecing it together.
I’ve been reading about quilts off and on for the last day or so and was trying to remember the name of a quilt exhibit at the art museum several years ago. I knew it was The Quilts of Something or Other but the only thing that would materialize on the Jumbotron screen of my short-circuited pandemic brain was The Quilts of Madison County and, seductive as that sounds, I knew it wasn’t right.
Thankfully some idiot googling solved my problem (idiot googling is when you type the word salad that describes the thing you’re looking for into Google and the computer fills in the blanks – so in this case, “quilt art exhibit Cleveland museum”) and I, or rather the internet, came up with The Quilts of Gee’s Bend. Thinking about this exhibit takes me right back in time. It appeared at the museum here in 2004, when I was still relatively new on the job as a local magazine editor, and there was a lot of fanfare around it. 2004 was also the year I met my husband. That was 16 years ago!
I have a hard time thinking of right now ever being 16 years ago. First off I will be mumble mumble years of age and second of all it seems as if this ass-ache pandemic is going to last forever. My banner has the right sentiment.
