I cooked all day yesterday. Cinnamon scones for breakfast, two loaves of French bread, enchiladas for dinner. I also made my DIY disinfecting wipes. (Mine don’t look like that. Mine are cut-up old dishtowels in a Mr. Lid container.) They will do for the time being, but homesteading wife I am not. Also, they smell highly flammable.
Speaking of flammable liquids: we made Aviations last night! This recipe is the one I always use but don’t shake the crème de violette with the rest of the ingredients – once everything else is shaken and poured into the glass, pour the crème de violette over a spoon so it all settles on the bottom. You will look like a fancy mixologist to your quarantine partner(s) or to the internet!
I’m not sure if a strong cocktail diminished or improved my experience of Tiger King, which we finally began watching last night. One thing about being mostly locked up in your house is that you sort of have no choice other than to participate in the zeitgeist. Now I will know what all the Tiger King memes are talking about!
It stormed last night – a real, proper thunderstorm – and it was a nice reminder that spring is here. When I heard the first clap of thunder I did feel a spike of fear as it dawned on me that the puppy is new to thunderstorms. We’ve lucked out with all of our dogs in that they have been afraid of things like the kitchen exhaust fan, the hand mixer, the steam mop, and the sound of food cooking on the stovetop (again WHY ARE DOGS) but not of things you’d think might genuinely scare a small dog, such as fireworks or thunder.
Anyway, I’m not even sure the puppy woke up. In fact, she didn’t whine to go out at all. This seemed completely un-possible during the two months she allowed me to sleep in 45- to 90-minute bursts every night, so every time it happens I am #grateful in the extreme.
I’m hoping for a walk today as the skies seemed to have rained themselves out for the time being. It’s supposed to be warm, so I expect to see…literally every person in the city outside. This is much better than everyone being at home posting on Nextdoor, though at least arguing over the pandemic has replaced arguing over the school levy. I am not sure why it is important to debate whether or not Zagara’s is a good grocery store but this is something people are very invested in. More people should probably be watching Tiger King.
