The puppy was spicy yesterday morning. She is four months and 23 days old, and yes I count the days because I seem to remember our older dog turning into less of an asshole at around the six-month mark. (If you think I'm a bad person for referring to a puppy as an asshole, you've never had a puppy.) Yesterday she tried to eat a staple. The reason she was able to get the (rusty, metal) staple was that she is methodically pulling the fabric off the bottom of one of our living room chairs. So cute right!!!!
After I pulled the staple out of her mouth I put the dogs in their matching shirts (yes) and took them to dog daycare, which is still open, thank you Governor DeWine, at least for now. Then I came home and worked some more and waited for my husband to get off of his work call so we could go to the grocery store.
We probably could have waited a bit longer without going but I wanted to get it over with before the weekend. I did not enjoy it. It was crowded, like day-before-Thanksgiving crowded, and there was a weird vibe because everyone is tense. Here are the things they were out of or nearly out of because this is how we talk now, like WW2 housewives chatting about recipes for victory muffins or whatever: toilet paper obviously, disinfectant wipes also obviously, eggs, most of the butter, sugar, flour.
In my last letter I said I wasn't much in the mood for online shopping, but, whoops! I bought some "unpaper towels" from an Etsy seller. I've been trying to reduce the amount of paper and plastic we use for a while now, and while I don't see a time when I won't buy paper towels because dogs are disgusting, it would be nice to use fewer paper towels overall. Also, if we're all going to be in the habit of hoarding paper products in general, I'd rather just reduce my reliance on them. I'll let you know how it goes.
Last night I video chatted with my niece and sister-in-law, which I really enjoyed. My niece will be four in a couple of weeks and will most likely not get to have her birthday party, which sucks. She also requested another sleepover at my house. Her mother reminded her that right now everyone needs to learn to wash their hands, and when that happens we can do things like sleepovers. I wish it was that simple for all of us, but I'm mostly glad it's that simple for her right now. I hope her parents are enjoying their 27th viewing of Frozen 2 today!
