Yesterday was a good day. The weather was great and my dogs were not monsters. We took them on a walk and let them run each other ragged in the backyard and then they very agreeably slept all evening and all night.
I also made this Smitten Kitchen coffee cake and reader, I recommend it. Somehow, and this never happens to me, the chips and cinnamon-sugar filling all stayed in the middle of the cake! I shared several pieces with the neighbors, who kindly sent us over some soda bread last week, and while I’m not sorry I shared it I am sorry that there are pieces of this cake I won’t eat.
This morning my sister-in-law stopped by with our nieces to bring us some cookies and brownies along with our Christmas presents. We’ve seen them since Christmas, but kept forgetting the gifts, and then of course in mid-March the world screeched to a halt.
I’ll be amped when my older niece, who is four, can come over and hang out with us again, because my mom has been giving me a lot of very awesome old toys for her benefit, including this very amazing 1976 Barbie boutique I inherited from an older cousin. I also have my own McDonalds playset, which needs a serious bath, but it still has most of the square-headed people and other assorted choke-able pieces.
One thing I really hope is still squirreled away in my parents’ attic or basement somewhere are my Fashion Plates. I fucking LOVED Fashion Plates, and let me tell you, I would not have to be very bored at all to throw a few outfits in the ol’ stencil holder and color them, to this day.
The weather is not as nice today, in fact it’s been pouring rain off and on, but I baked bread and shortly my husband will come downstairs and cook Irish breakfast meats, and maybe my dogs will not be monsters again. I hope you’re looking forward to a good Sunday too.
