I slept until almost 9 am today. I never ever sleep that late, and not for lack of trying. I’m not a “morning person” exactly but I am an early riser. I just don’t want to have to go anywhere or do anything right away, which is why I’ve never been on time to work ever. I mean…if there was something important happening and I had to be there on time, I would be. But a run of the mill workday? Nah.
When I work from home I am online and working by around 7:30 am, mostly because I can do it wearing my glasses and some pajama pants while I sit on the couch with my dogs. I do tend to pull myself together a little bit for video calls, though you can bet I checked that “touch up my appearance” box in my Zoom preferences. Let’s be real.
Anyway, I had already brewed a pot of coffee this morning when I decided to surprise my husband and make Dalgona coffee. It’s…fine? I don’t know if anyone is out there making this stuff every morning, but if you are, stop it, you’re going to die. If you have a real taste for Starbucks “coffee” drinks this is probably up your street but I can’t see making it very often. Even splitting one batch between us it was too sweet. The fun part is making the sugar, coffee, and water all whippy.
Also I didn’t have instant coffee so I made it with instant espresso and uh…well let’s just say I didn’t need the pot of coffee I’d made.
In entertainment news, we are closing in on the series finale of Homeland, which we’ve been watching on Sunday mornings after breakfast. Next week is the final episode and Showtime is not letting anybody watch it until 9 pm! I really like Homeland although I rebuke what they did to Peter Quinn (why would you take Rupert Friend away from me? Why?) and yes, Carrie is very annoying, but I am sorry to see it end. It has been with me for so long!
Last week someone on Twitter posted that they were watching Six Feet Under for the first time and I was very jealous. I’ll never get to see that show for the first time again and that’s a shame. If you haven’t watched it, you should. It’s like the OG must-see prestige television show and it took me no time at all to get through all five seasons.
Tonight we’re having America’s Test Kitchen skillet baked ziti, which I could make more or less in my sleep, but one of the ideas we tossed around and ultimately decided to save for another night is macaroni peas, which I will now share with you: here. Macaroni peas is a great “oh shit we have no food” dinner, because it’s entirely likely you have frozen peas, pasta, and some parmesan. Please plan on having it some night soon.
(Sorry if you don’t like peas.)
