I slept poorly last night for the first time in a while. My big little dog woke me up again for breakfast and honestly what is his deal lately! Now he’s sleeping like a baby angel in his dog bed and I’m typing away. It might as well be Monday!
At one point during the night, about to drop off to sleep, I woke up alarmed thinking I hadn’t sent this email. Well not this email but the one I sent yesterday. This is day 53 of…whatever we are calling it now and I’m not sure how long I’ll do a daily email. I really like doing it! But I don’t know at what point it goes from “here is some weird pandemic stuff that’s happening” to just “the pandemic stuff is just how it is now.”
Yesterday we took a long walk. It was properly warm, almost summertime warm, and we stopped to chat with a few people at a safe distance. You almost forget, really.
We made pulled pork tacos and gin and tonics and called my sister-in-law to chat for a while. Later I fell asleep in front of The Great Gatsby (Robert Redford, not Leonardo DiCaprio). Today is another summery one, with no rain in the forecast, so we will probably go for another walk. We walk a lot even when there are other things to do, but now it’s different, there’s no urgency, nowhere else to be, no dinner or cocktail plans or anything else.
Tonight I have a family Zoom happy hour at 5 pm and it will be interesting to see how that goes as I am probably the youngest person on the call by a good 15 years or so. The secret in these situations is to also claim technological ignorance. Never say something like “oh I use Zoom every day!” because then you are going to have to walk everyone through how to do things like “exit full screen” or whatever. Bad Idea Jeans!
The puppy has grown up a lot in the last couple of weeks and yesterday we finally, finally, ditched the puppy pads. In my limited experience with puppies, they sometimes just keep not getting things until one day they do. As I mentioned, her spay surgery is on Friday and as much as I’m not looking forward to two weeks of Cone Patrol, once it’s over it will sort of put an endcap on my baby dog days and that, at least, I am very much looking forward to.
I’ve ordered her something called a Suitical which should be hilarious but might get us out of the Cone Zone sooner than later. She doesn’t mind wearing clothes so maybe it will work, who knows, she’s been full of surprises since day one (for better and for worse).
