Well, we survived Tuesday. I had a bad attitude for most of yesterday with the exception of the time we spent having this taco torte for dinner with some grocery store bottled margaritas. I did level up to the “good” kind of faux margs (they come in a glass bottle instead of plastic and also do not go on sale) so don’t @ me.
For the record, and some of you may have guessed this, I am absolutely the type of person who would turn her nose up at bottled margaritas but listen. We’re all doing our best here. We had maybe a couple of ounces of tequila in our bar so it was a choice between the grocery store or the liquor store and the grocery store is closer. Plus, I’m tired. Plus, you can add good tequila to bottled margs, did you know that?
During college some of my friends worked at a Don Pablo’s (RIP) near their apartment. We ended up eating and drinking there quite a bit, but they had a rule that even off-duty employees could only order two drinks per visit. So my friends would order two extra-large margaritas, each with an extra shot of tequila. (How do college kids not just die from stupidity always?) Anyway, that is where I got the idea to add an extra shot of nice tequila to our not-as-nice margaritas. College was definitely worth the money, I learned a lot!
Terrible Tuesday was capped off in style last night when I took the puppy outside before bed. She began her usual sniffing around but then somewhere down the block a dog barked, which set off the dog next door, which set off my dog. The puppy has a tiny, grumbly, weird little bark that is more funny than annoying but I don’t want her in the habit of the BARK BARK LET’S ALL BARK thing that happens when a bunch of dogs gets going. Then, as the dogs quieted, a bunch of dudes (it’s always dudes) on motorcycles with jet engines started roaring around the neighborhood and all the dogs started up again.
The puppy was way too amped up to complete her tasks and we had to go inside and wait and try again and I was very over it. “Bedtime” should not take 40 minutes, at least not on a Tuesday and definitely not for a dog.
My quilting supplies have allegedly shipped so I should be able to get back to that next week. I know this sounds insane, but I really feel like I want to take a day off from work. I could totally do this of course but on the other hand…why.
I was trying to think last night of how we could conceivably “get away” at some point this summer but I can’t imagine how this would be accomplished without some degree of foolhardiness. If ever there was a time to be a real wilderness pro-level camping type this would be it, but it is too late to change my stripes in that regard.
The food part: Normally this would be carryout night but we have two nights’ worth of leftovers that should be dealt with, so I’m calling a Thursday carryout exception. I have also sort of lost my zest for dessert-making lately, but I will definitely be making a giant loaf of bread today and could be talked into cookies this weekend. As long as it’s still cool outside it feels dumb not to bake but I am just not feeling it at the moment!
Remind me of this in a few days when I am knee-deep in Swiss buttercream and buttering multiple cake pans.
