Here’s a breaking news item: At some point during the last week or so, a switch got flipped and now the puppy is sleeping through the night. THE WHOLE NIGHT. Not waking me up to go out one hour after bedtime, not waking me up at 3 a.m. or 5 a.m. Miracles happen, you can believe in them now.
Also: three of the puppy’s baby murder teeth fell out this weekend. I am glad to see them go, each of them having spent time embedded in my flesh at some point. My husband recently referred to the puppy’s early days as her “demon gerbil” phase and that’s probably the most accurate way to describe it. I am glad we got to spend part of this quarantine bidding goodbye to the worst parts of her puppyhood; by the time we’re allowed to start leaving the house again she’ll really have rounded the corner into being a fully baked dog.
Speaking of baking! I baked another quarantine loaf this morning, this time a boule. I am pretty happy with it although I should have just baked the whole batch of dough rather than dividing it. On the plus side, the remaining half will stay in the fridge getting more and more flavorsome until it’s ready to be baked. I still don’t understand why some corners of the internet are hating on bread? What did bread ever do to you? I’m sorry you’re hurting but it’s not bread’s fault!!
I went outside a bit ago to retrieve the paper and WOOF. This week the Sunday New York Times is all coronavirus all the time. The magazine cover story is coronavirus, The Ethicist is coronavirus, the Diagnosis column is coronavirus. It goes without saying that the front page of the paper is coronavirus. Ditto the Sunday Review, the Business section, and Travel. For Arts & Leisure, we get Kim Kardashian, which, maybe I’d prefer coronavirus?
I am a very anxious person so it’s probably better that I set aside the Times for today. I mean I don’t know what else the paper would report on at the moment! There is just a limit to what I can absorb. This is why I have to ration Twitter. Omg, watch MSNBC or CNN? Hahaha. Sweet summer child. Right now I am watching a Formula 1 race from the 90s. I will go back in time to avoid being too informed about current events. I recommend it!
