Yesterday I started to order some lightweight coverings for my quickly withering carapace but almost, as I have so often during the last…49 days? opted to ABANDON CART, as they say around the ol’ e-commerce factory. It’s not that I want to wear the same two pairs of Gap lounge pants indefinitely, it’s just that I can. Plus these pants are free! I already paid for them.
Online shopping in the age of coronavirus has been weird for me, in that I mostly have done less of it. I haven’t ordered any grocery delivery, mostly because nothing is ever available. We also haven’t used Uber Eats or anything like that, although there is one place around here that will deliver and they are right down the road so we have gone that route. And other than stuff for sewing and quilting my purchases have, for the most part, been pretty boring: a steam mop, a humidifier, dog food. Oh and wine. How could I forget wine!
Anyway I decided to go ahead and order a couple of cheapo gin sacks to wear in warmer weather, and then I also did a teeny splurge and bought exactly one shirt from an ethically sourced, plant-dyed, made-in-the-USA type of place. This is how I keep things in balance.
Buying clothes right now seems…well it seems to not make much sense if I’m being honest. If I am not going to any weddings or graduations or vacations this year I could just wear what I already have and that would be fine. I’ll sit here with my steam mop and my humidifier and my Gap lounge pants if need be. But also we’ll have to find a way to make our own fun as we navigate our pandemic summer. Might as well wear an ethically sourced top!
