Two things are coming up: my pandemic wedding anniversary and my pandemic birthday. True confessions: I am the type of person who likes to give traditional anniversary gifts. Did you know the “traditional” gift for 53rd anniversaries is plastic? I am positive that was added by a drunk Hallmark person before some pressing deadline, but nonetheless, now you know!
The traditional sixth-anniversary gift is iron and/or candy. I turned to my friend Etsy and found a suitable gift made of iron, and the candy will be easy enough. I know these things seem hokey, but I really enjoy it. I like the idea of iron for strength, candy for sweetness. Plus I bought a rude card.
Every year on our anniversary we like to watch our wedding video (it’s only seven minutes long, we’re not crazy) and look at some of the pictures. I also have a little anniversary book with questions that I like to force us to fill out together. I don’t understand the point of some of the questions though, like “What was your biggest fight this year?” Yes what better activity on your anniversary than to look back to a time where you hated each other about something stupid!
I really loved our wedding so it makes me happy to think about it. I even still have our wedding website online and I like that, too. If this is all making you rethink how you feel about me as a person, my condolences!
Anyway. I recently got an account credit from my flower subscription due to some melted calla lilies, so I splurged on a very large bouquet of roses that should arrive around my birthday. I’ve also requested to order breakfast from Luna (nest egg w/bacon, obvs).
I’m wondering what the holidays might look like this year. To be honest, I am a little concerned about what this lifestyle is going to feel like when the weather gets shitty and cold. Right now our solution to most everything is “take a walk,” which seems to have the effect of clearing cobwebs, getting some mild exercise, wearing out the dogs, and seeing (even if from afar!) fellow Earth inhabitants. Maybe we will have to start snowshoeing or something.
