I ordered a frame today that should allow me to take pictures of my finished quilts. I follow many British quilters online who take pictures outside with their quilts tossed over tall hedges or stone garden walls. I have neither of these and if I draped a quilt over the tall cedar fence in my back yard I am sure there’s a more than decent chance it would be snatched by the garage trolls that certainly live behind my neighbor’s house, never to be seen again.
We’ve dropped back into the 50s, weather-wise, and I can finally say I am ready for a bit of a warm-up. Normally I like the early-fall temperatures to stick around as long as possible but it feels like it’s time to move on. It was a long cold winter in many respects and I don’t think anyone has a desire to prolong it (I am of course speaking to my Northern Hemisphere peeps here). Sunday it was about 83 and very sunny and Monday it was very Ohio with a chance of Cleveland. (55, wet.)
I don’t mind sharing here that I made a bomb pizza on Saturday night and cheesesteaks on Sunday night. The latter resulted in my kitchen smelling like a baseball stadium well into this morning, which was not a bad thing at all. Last night I made this despite how many times I make New York Times pasta recipes and find them not all that impressive, and it was pretty good! TO BE SURE there are exceptions but: if I haven’t shared this before a good rule of thumb for NYT pasta recipes is to double the vegetables and sauce and halve the pasta.
Sunday is Mother’s Day so I ordered food from a place nearby which is about the right amount of effort for where I’m at right now. I like the part where people come over and we eat together but I am not terribly motivated to do a big stupid cooking thing when we STILL OMG do not have a dishwasher. I read a news article this week about certain models of dishwashers, including ours, being back-ordered until August, and like…no thank you. I’m hoping that because we ordered ours on January 1 we might be a little closer than that.
Also BIG NEWS later this week I am getting a HAIRCUT. This will be my first trip back since early March 2020 and my hair definitely looks like it. I’ve tried so hard with various conditioners and unguents but it still looks like stable straw. I can’t wait to not wear it all piled into a fraying scrunchie on top of my head!
Finally in dog news we discovered my little dog has made friends with an even MORE LITTLE dog at school, a chihuahua. His head is tinier even than my dog’s tiny head! Also, he wears an inflatable neck donut to school and I don’t know what the story is there but I love him almost as much as I love Prancer.
