I don’t know about you but I can’t stand existing right now. There is way too much riding on this election. It shouldn’t be like this, you know? It shouldn’t be a choice between “chance in hell” and “totally fucked.” I’m not doing great with it this weekend, to be honest!
The need to arrive at my assigned polling place at 5:30 am on Tuesday morning is going to smack some of the panic out of me, that’s for sure. It’s going to feel like getting up at 4 am for early morning work travel. Back in the old days!
Last night was our citywide trick-or-treat. We took a late afternoon walk with the dogs and saw a lot of clever set-ups, from PVC-pipe candy chutes to traffic lights telling people when to approach and when to hang back. I had planned to sit outside with a warming cocktail and a bowl of help-yourself candy, but by the time 6 pm rolled around I was in a bad mood and not feeling it.
I was not Grinch-y enough to keep all the candy to myself, though, so I put a big bowl of it on the front stoop with a note to please take a handful. Unlike the neighbor across the street, I did not loom in my front window to intimidate people into following the “rules,” which they did anyway because we had candy left over.
The updates to our library and sunroom are finished, though we are in need of lamps, a need I am deliberately ignoring for the time being. We still need to get shutters installed and after that, I really need to address the dishwasher issue, plus we need to have the HVAC guy out to give the boiler its yearly once-over.
I did a lot of…I wouldn’t say “panic buying” but perhaps “anxiety buying” this weekend. I got my husband’s birthday gifts sorted, I bought some (probably deeply unnecessary) hair stuff at Sephora, I ordered some baking supplies from King Arthur. I also sprung for a wake-up light to hopefully alleviate some of the winter darkness in the morning. Anyway, I’m good to not go on any lamp-finding excursions for a while, unless of course I need to deeply obsess about something starting, say, Wednesday morning.
