I made it through my jury duty week without having to serve or even report to the courthouse. We have a lot of new coronavirus cases in the county right now and the precautions for jurors seemed adequate, but if I had to pick potentially exposing myself to something at jury duty or while helping people vote next Tuesday, then I choose Tuesday.
Going by the number of people who are voting early or by mail I wonder if it will be a long, slow day on Tuesday. It always surprises me how relatively few people are registered to vote as compared to how many I think should be registered. I grew up going to the polls with my parents so I guess I didn’t think it was optional? Anyway I am glad I will not have any access to my phone for the whole day.
Life is incrementally easier with the puppy stoned out of her gourd, though by the time this missive reaches you she will not be a puppy anymore. To celebrate her birthday I will make her wear a festive kerchief and I guess give her some cheese. Dogs are generally pretty ungrateful about such gestures but she will for sure like the cheese.
Speaking of ungrateful dogs, I put the bigger one in a VERY HANDSOME new sweater today. He hates clothes, but when the daycare ladies made a big deal of him at drop-off I saw the look on his pointy face. I WIN AGAIN.
Our painters seem to be finishing up today and I am looking forward to having my house back. We are fortunate to have plenty of room to spread out so they can be left alone and we can work, but it is a bit like having some very awkward temporary roommates, albeit ones that are handier than usual.
For my background noise television I have been playing The White Queen, a trashy historical drama that I have watched a time or two before. Every time I look up from my work Elizabeth Woodville and Edward IV are makyngge ye olde lovve in a very Cinemax After Dark fashion. No wonder this woman had eleventeen children!
